Description
I almost missed this shot of Mesa Arch in Canyonlands National Park, Utah.
I woke up at 3:30AM in order to make the drive, hike, and set up 45 minutes before sunrise. I made it with time to spare, so timing was not the problem. The problem was I didn't know where the sun would break over the horizon. Usually that's not a big deal. But with this location, one can not just move over a few feet, because by the time the sun came up there were well over 20 photographers packed into the small space, tripod to tripod - with people standing one row back, cameras in hand! It was insane!
I unfortunately was set up too far to the left, and the rising sun was not visible from my location. And there was nowhere to go. Luckily, one photographer over to my right a ways snapped a few photos and then left. I grabbed my tripod and his prime spot before anyone else even knew he was gone.
Who knew photography was such a high pressure occupation? Sheesh
