This is Swiftcurrent Lake and Mount Grinnell, located in the Many Glacier / St. Mary Lakes region of Glacier National Park, Montana.
George Bird Grinnell was an American anthropologist, historian, naturalist, and writer. He became a prominent early conservationist and student of Native American life. Grinnell has been recognized for his influence on public opinion and work on legislation to preserve the American West. Grinnell made hunting trips to the St. Mary Lakes region in 1885, 1887 and 1891, and these trips are what sparked in him a dream to protect the area for future generations as a national park.
Through his magazine, Forest and Stream, he also championed the protection of Yellowstone, the founding of the Audubon Society, and with Theodore Roosevelt started the influential Boone and Crockett Club. But his favorite place was northwestern Montana, and his dream was achieved when the area became Glacier National Park in 1910. Grinnell Glacier is named in his...
