Description
Back in the days of cotton the Savannah riverfront bluff, consisting of alleys and walkways, was named Factors Walk. It was named this because the men who worked with the cotton exchange were called factors. They factored how much cotton was brought in to be sold. Factors Walk was the center for most commercial activities.
Ramps leading from Bay Street down the bluff to River Street are paved with cobblestones, brought as ballast in and abandoned on the riverbanks by departing sailing ships.
