Description
The Blue Ridge Parkway is called "America's Favorite Drive" for good reason. It is a road-trip experience unlike any other I have enjoyed. The pace is slow and relaxing, with hundreds of overlooks revealing both stunning long-range vistas and close-up views of the rugged mountains and pastoral landscapes of the Appalachian Highlands.
The Parkway meanders for an incredible 469 miles, following the Blue Ridge Mountains, which are a part of the Appalachian Mountain chain. The Parkway runs between the Great Smoky Mountains and Shenandoah National Park, providing countless opportunities for enjoying all that makes this region of the country so special. It's an area steeped in tradition and recognized world-wide as a crossroads of natural and cultural richness.
This image was captured in the northern portion of the area, off Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park.
