I was born and raised in Montana, and for as long as I can remember Glacier National Park has been my favorite place on earth. Many times I have been to this very spot on Lake McDonald, but I had never gone there for the sole purpose of photography, until this trip.

My mom and I don't get to see each other often enough, but we were staying in Columbia Falls together - about 30 miles away. We got up very early on this day, made some coffee to go, headed out in the dark to get to the lake before sunrise, set up, and had some good conversation while we patiently wait to capture the coming light show. We were not disappointed. After the sun came up and the colors faded, we said our goodbyes and headed in our own directions. This image will always remind me of her and our wonderful time spent together.
