On what turned out to be a very special day in central Montana, my 85-year-old mother and I set out on a random drive into the Highwood Mountains - part of the Little Belt Mountains, which are part of the Rockies. Our only goals were to enjoy each others company, and get lost. We did both. And when the golden hour struck, the scene was magical.
It is difficult to tell how high above the world we were when this image was taken. If you look closely, you will see what looks like a number of tiny horizontal lines in the lower left hand corner of the image. Those lines are actually far off cattle along with their long late-afternoon shadows. We were deceptively high above the valley below.
