Description
This is a long exposure shot of the Atlantic Ocean taken underneath the pier on Tybee Island Beach, a short drive from Savannah, Georgia.
Tybee Island has a long and colorful history. The name “Tybee,” like the history of the island itself, has many interpretations. Most historians believe “Tybee” is derived from the Native American Euchee word for “salt” – one of many local, natural resources that played important roles in the island’s history.
Many battles were fought for control of this now quiet and peaceful island. In 1520 the Spanish claimed Tybee as part of Spain’s “La Florida”, an area that extended from the Bahamas to Nova Scotia. In 1605 the French fought Spain for control. Superior French and British settlements eventually forced Spain to relinquish their claim on Tybee. For many decades, pirates visited the island in search of a safe haven and hiding place for treasure.
Tybee played an important military role in both the American Revolutionary War and the American Civil War as well. It was controlled first by the Confederates, and then by the Union.
After the Civil War, Tybee became what it is today: an island popular with vacationers and Savannah residents who want to escape the city heat. In Georgia it is now referred to as Savannah's Beach.

I am noticing the handsome red/purple tones in your images. Don't know how you do this, but it is effective. Hearty f/l for all your fine images, Renee.
