Description
I have a love affair with ghost towns. I have known that for a very long time. But what I didn't know is that I have an extra dose of love for ghost towns in the desert! It just seems to be the perfect wild-west setting.
This vintage 1940s sedan with suicide doors has been resting in this desert, in Nelson, Nevada - not far from Las Vegas - for a very long time. I love the multicolored body and missing engine. I was also very intrigued by the beautiful cacti in the area. I have no idea what they are called, but with the day's last rays hitting them they seemed to almost light up around the edges.
Nelson, back in 1775, wasn't Nelson but was called Eldorado by the Spaniards who made the original discoveries of gold in this area that is now Eldorado Canyon. A hundred years later the prospectors and miners of the day took over and established the notorious Techatticup Mine. Disagreements over ownership, management and labor disputes resulted in wanton killings so frequent as to be routine and ordinary.
Despite the sinister reputation of the mine, it and others in the town produced several million dollars in gold, silver, copper and lead.
