Description
This image was captured at sunrise on Driftwood Beach, Jekyll Island, Georgia. Jekyll is the southernmost island of the Golden Isles, consisting of St. Simons Island, Sea Island, Little St. Simons Island and Jekyll Island.
Jekyll was purchased in 1886 by a group of wealthy families as a private retreat. By 1900, The Jekyll Island Club membership included the Rockefellers, Morgans, Cranes and Goulds and represented over one-sixth of the world’s wealth. The Club closed in 1942 and Jekyll Island was purchased by the State of Georgia in 1947.
For me, the most special and fascinating part of the island is this amazing beach. Driftwood beach is now a beautiful tree graveyard due to the Atlantic's encroach. The north end of the island is slowly eroding away and being deposited on the south end.

Fantastic capture, love the colors refelected off of the sand and the shadows cast by the drift wood. Tweeted and Pinned.

Wow! So very beautiful Renee. This driftwood is like a piece of sculpture formed by nature and set against more of nature's beauty in the form of that glorious sunset. L/F

It has been a long time since I last visited Jekyll Island, GA. Your image brings back some good memories for me. I really like this shot, Renee! A fine seascape, indeed!
