Description
Nothing says "Southern Plantation" quite like a row of live oak trees covered in Spanish moss. Just south of Savannah, on the Isle of Hope, is the Wormsloe Plantation site, with a 1.5 mile long row of those beautiful and romantic trees. The plantation house is nothing more than a tabby ruin now. Tabby is a type of building material used in the coastal Southeast from the late 1500s to the 1850s, and is made of equal parts lime, water, sand, oyster shells, and ash. Wormsloe is the only standing architectural remnant in Savannah from the founding of Georgia.
